In a recent survey by AIIM, the Global Community of Information Professionals, 46% of respondents indicated that the single biggest productivity improvement for most of their business processes is to remove paper. So…Why do business processes still require so much paper in the oil & gas service industry?
The problems with paper are numerous, obvious, and costly. Paper is not smart—it does not know that a new price was supposed to go into effect today. Paper needs to be transported, gets lost, gets dirty and is often mangled in the oilfield. Paper needs to be keyed in—basically documenting the same transaction twice. Those five part paper forms are expensive to produce, and just because the customer changes the white copy does not mean that change will wind up on the pink copy already in payroll.
